Michigan Fosters : November 2022

Michigan Fosters is a non-profit based out of Holland that serves foster/adoptive/kinship families throughout Ottawa County. Their mission is to forge a community of support surrounding and fortifying those impacted by the foster care system. They do this by wrapping around foster families and the children they care for by delivering supplies and clothing when new placements arrive (MiBundle Program and Come & Get It events), making and delivering home cooked meals (Mitten Meals), and providing a neutral, home-environment for foster children to meet with their biological families (Journey Home).

With the funds raised this month, The Dollar Difference planned on purchasing movie passes that would be added to the “Christmas Magic” gift baskets that Michigan Fosters was creating to help spread some holiday cheer to the children and families on the front lines of foster care. When contacting local theatres inquiring about prices for the movie passes, we were blown away when Ethan, the manager at Sperry’s Moviehouse, claimed that he loved the work we were doing so much that he (Sperry’s) wanted to donate the 150 movie tickets needed so we could put our monthly funds towards something else to help make the foster care Christmas baskets even more epic! And that’s exactly what we did! We used this month’s funds to purchase $50 gift cards to local restaurants which were then included in each of the Christmas baskets.

The Christmas baskets were so fabulous and included a meal, a $50 gift card to a restaurant, movie passes for the whole family, holiday wrapping paper and gift boxes, a Christmas cookie kit, a cozy Christmas blanket, hot chocolate supplies, stockings filled with books/toys/candy, and an age appropriate gift for each child in the family!
