Adoptive Ministries : May 2022 - Mosaic Foster & Adoptive Ministries : May 2022 MOSAIC is a support ministry which seeks to actively “do life” with families and volunteers engaged in foster care, adoption, kinship care, transitional refugee care and Safe Families as they work to provide a safe environment for vulnerable and waiting children. Building supportive and encouraging relationships aligns with the heart of the gospel, and is the heart of MOSAIC’s ministry. These intentional relationships strengthen MOSAIC families, providing encouragement, understanding and support to parents while simultaneously striving to provide vulnerable and hurting children with community, normalcy, hope and belonging. Their programs meet a variety of needs including a clothing co-op, family movie nights, mom/dad nights out, foster & adoptive support groups, family-friendly events, church partnerships and so much more! With May being "National Foster Care" month, MOSAIC is thrilled to be hosting a family-fun event at ROLLXSCAPE Skating Center! This event will not only provide a fun, engaging, memory-making time for MOSAIC Families, but also will be a celebration of the dedicated foster care workers in our community who will also be invited to the event along with their families! MOSAIC loves having the opportunity to express their appreciation for the hard work and dedication that our local foster care workers have for the kids in our community. MOSAIC plans to use the funds from The Dollar Difference this month to help fund the rollerskating event! Using new and donated goods, they offer families hope for tomorrow by furnishing their homes with warmth, functionality, and beauty. They have been working mainly with the YWCA to help women and children who have left difficult situations, and find themselves in a new place often with only the clothes on their backs. Since their first move in November 2021, they have been able to set up 8 homes for women and their combined 19 children! This has involved providing beds, dressers, kitchen items, kitchen tables, living room furniture, and all of the decor as well as putting it all together in a way that makes their new house feel like a home. By providing a safe and secure environment for these families, Restored Refuge’s hope and prayer is that it allows the families to focus on their recovery, and on healing together as a family. Restored Refuge Designs plans to use the funds from this month to purchase new bed pillows, kitchen and bath towels, as well as couch covers. These are things they use with every move, and they like to provide these as new items for their clients. We ended the month of April with 494 donors which translates into $494 for Restored Refuge Designs! The girls shared that they planned on cashing the check after we left, and then heading to Target to stock up on new pillows and kitchen towels for their upcoming moves! She is a conference event planner, and in her free time she enjoys boxing, reading and watching crime shows. Foster care and adoption have always been a part of her journey as she was adopted at 6 years old with two of her brothers, and her parents were a licensed foster home throughout her childhood. From these experiences, Kia had a strong desire to be active in foster care and adoption when she became an adult. In August of 2021, Kia’s dream came true as she welcomed a sweet, caring nine year old boy into her home and heart through adoption. Kia shared, “The last 6 months have been full of learning and ever-changing moments, but it has been so rewarding. He truly is the best part of me. I love doing life with him.” Kia plans to use the funds from this month to transform their bedrooms! Since they spend the least amount of time in their bedrooms, they have given first priority to the main living spaces in their new home. Currently, the bedrooms are very plain, and do not reflect their personalities or meet their needs. Kia so beautifully expressed “that it is important during this time of transition that her son knows that he is HOME, and that this space is FOREVER his!”. This month we secretly partnered with Kia’s family and friends to give her an epic surprise! While Kia was out of town for a few days, a group of people came in and made-over her and her son’s bedrooms complete with fresh paint, beds, bedding, dressers, rugs, and all of the decor! After 10 years of doing foster care and already adding on to their home 3 times, the Steele family realized they needed more space, and decided to start from scratch by building a new home! As they started planning for the new home, they saw the need to also include some space for teens aging out of the foster care system. They found 5 acres in Muskegon, MI that was zoned for “multi-family residential”, which allowed them to build their home, include an apartment, and also have capacity to build additional small homes on the property that they can rent out to teens who have aged out of the foster care system. Their home was recently finished, and they were able to move in just before Christmas! With so many children in the home, 13 children of their own plus a few more, they've been working on making it a welcoming and safe space. The main floor includes an open-floor plan where they can host meals and other gatherings for large numbers of people. The basement is still a work in progress, but they desire for it to be a fun space where they can spend time connecting together. They wish to add a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey and other games to complete the space and create an epic hang out area! They will be using the funds to purchase something fun to add to their basement hang out area in their new home. The Give Hope RV launched in the summer of 2018, and they are stepping into their fifth season hosting and serving families. In the upcoming 2022 season they will serve approximately 120 foster and adoptive families both locally and from all over the United States. They have three RV locations (in Allegan county, Michigan) that are set up to serve families providing them full amenities to make their stay relaxing and stress free. Families can either choose to stay mid-week or over a weekend for their getaway. We ended the month of January with 217 donors which translates into $217 for Give Hope RV!!!
